What is the purpose of this evaluation?
The evaluation is an investigation and analysis of the child's health, safety, welfare, and best interest to help the court make recommendations. This is especially true if the court is considering permanent custody or visitation orders.
Who performs the evaluation?
The evaluation is usually done by a licensed psychologist, marriage and family therapist, clinical social worker, or psychiatrist. This person can be a private professional, a court employee, or someone hired by the court.
Is the report private?
The child custody evaluation report is confidential, and you must not share its contents without permission. A court can fine someone who shares it improperly.
